THE CHILDREN OF ROWAN

When Salem, a bright, cheeky trans teen scholar, discovers the fabled Isle Rowan, he must choose between selling out its secrets to restore his tarnished reputation or saving its inhabitants from a vengeful, unravelling curse. The price of playing hero may be his life—or worse, his academic career—but redemption will cost Salem the trust—and quite possibly the freedom—of Isle Rowan’s people. The choice would be simple, were Salem not beginning to love the very folks whose lives he means to destroy.

THE CHILDREN OF ROWAN is a YA fantasy, complete at 100,000 words, with series potential. Told through the protagonist’s witty academic journal, it combines the magical elements of Sawkill Girls with a voice and an anachronistic time period similar to A Series Of Unfortunate Events. As a queer OwnVoices novel with a transgender protagonist, it will appeal to LGBTQIA+ audiences and fans of irreverent, witchy fantasy stories that intermix lighthearted adventure with deep trenches of darkness.

Represented by Becca Crandall at the Carolyn Jenks Agency in Boston.
