I've been sitting on some incredible news for a really long time, and now I finally get to YELL ABOUT IT!!!
I'm beyond thrilled to be represented by Becca Crandall at the Carolyn Jenks Agency in Boston!!! Becca's a gem of a human being. Let me tell you exactly freakin' why.
During our phone call, I realized Becca was a highly creative, deeply empathetic, & whip-smart agent who 100% clicked w/ my work. We were on the same wavelength—about EVERYTHING. I notified outstanding subs/queries, but I was confident I'd found my match. Then the pandemic hit.
I fled NYC 3 days after our call. Becca, abroad, fought to get home. Publishing scrambled to configure a WFH situation. We agreed on a generous turnaround re: other agents. Waiting was brutal. The world was newly aflame and time had ceased to follow any rules we thought we knew. During all of this, Becca's patience and empathy were astoundingly graceful. Being able to adapt to radical change and keep your head above water is something I value deeply. I'm grateful to begin this partnership already knowing my agent can navigate a ship through stormy seas.
Does it feel strange to celebrate this milestone when the air is thick with suffering? Yeah. Absolutely. But being a person has been monumentally difficult for the past 2 months. So not only am I gonna celebrate—I'm gonna celebrate as explosively and decadently as I can!!
A tremendous amount of work came to fruition at just the wrong time—or, perhaps, at just the right time, when I needed a beacon to help shepherd me through the dark. Becca, I can't wait to set sail across these riotous waters with you. Together, we'll find calm & beautiful seas.

And with that, reader, my second go-around with NaNoWriMo is complete. The rough draft of THE TOWNSHIP OF ROWAN is complete!! I need a nap!!!
Here’s what little I know.
The Township of Rowan closed its doors a little over two centuries ago. Since then, there has only been one successful visit on record. The visitor did not return to his homeland. His nation has not reached out to retrieve him.
Rowan has no nationality nor representatives. They are untouched. They are unspoken of. Any interest is immediately redirected or forcibly shut down, as I have experienced consistently.
Also, their primary export is wool.
I have yet to see sheep.

First screening of Samantha Widmer’s 8-episode webseries LAILA’S LAIR.
The webseries I directed in June/July and spent September/October editing is finally done and festival ready!! What could go wrong did go wrong — indie filmmaking, amiright? — but with such an incredible team, mountains truly felt like molehills. Thank you to everyone involved for their hard work, time, and great attitudes. Look out for Laila’s Lair after next year’s festival circuit!

Writing an ensemble film with a pre-set cast was tricky business, so I combined it with vital ingredients I loved: queer issues and nerd culture. Jih-E Peng (pictured) brought the whole thing to life and inducted me into her skincare cult. Win/win. Photo by Alec Addalia.

Guess who just wrote the first 50,000 words of a new novel?
This kid!! While I’m loaded with traveling, post-production for Laila’s Lair, and preproduction for a super-cool-super-secret project for the next few months, I plan to finish the first draft of this wacky book in November for the big NaNoWriMo event.

This isn’t the normal industry-related news that pops up here, nor is it the razzle-dazzle travel plans or life benchmarks, but it’s important nonetheless. Post-grad is no picnic. Everyone rides their own roller coaster blindfolded and backward. My own taught me to never let the small stuff clog my creative pipeline.
I quit the terrible day job. Well, night job. Well, all-day-all-night job. Lucrative job. But miserable job.
Life’s too short. I’ve got too much to do.
On to better things!

Visited the set of THE FRONT RUNNER.
Had the opportunity to jump down to Atlanta for a couple days to watch some incredible actors do some jaw-dropping work, take notes on how Jason Reitman runs a set, be the only person to show up in a Halloween costume, and then let hair/makeup/wardrobe turn me into a short-haired version of my mother in the 80s. The coolest thing about the whole trip? Seeing my dad shoot a movie ON FILM!
